Beaches

From the lagoon to wild coves

Calm turquoise water on the Caribbean side; spectacular trade-wind coves on the Atlantic side.

Raisins Clairs beach

≈ 1.3 km

Saint-François's signature beach: white sand, sea-grape trees for shade and a lagoon sheltered by the coral reef — perfect for children and snorkelling.

Saint-François lagoon

≈ 2 km

Shallow water and steady trade winds: one of the island's best spots for windsurfing, kitesurfing and paddleboarding, with schools and rentals on site.

Anse à la Gourde

≈ 9 km

A long stretch of pale sand on the road to Pointe des Châteaux, fringed by wild vegetation. Lovely in the late afternoon.

Anse Tarare

≈ 10 km

A small, sheltered and unspoilt cove at the foot of Pointe des Châteaux (clothing-optional beach).

Grande Anse des Salines

≈ 11 km

A wild beach facing the Atlantic and the islands at Pointe des Châteaux — more for the view than for swimming, as the sea is often rough.

Sainte-Anne beaches

≈ 15 min

Bois Jolan, La Caravelle and the town beach: the neighbouring town's big family beaches, a short drive away.

A natural wonder

Pointe des Châteaux

About fifteen minutes from the villa, Guadeloupe's easternmost point raises its cliffs against the Atlantic. A short trail leads to the cross, with sweeping views of La Désirade, Petite-Terre and, on clear days, Marie-Galante. Part of a national “Grand Site” conservation programme, it is one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Caribbean — best at sunrise or sunset.

Islands on the horizon

Four islands from Saint-François

Saint-François is the natural departure point for the south-eastern islands: easy day trips, without going through Pointe-à-Pitre.

La Désirade

≈ 45 min to 1 hr crossing · daily service

The “end of the world” island: a long ribbon of land facing the Atlantic, deserted beaches, iguanas and a geological nature reserve with some of the oldest rocks in the Caribbean. Explore it by scooter or e-bike, at island pace.

Marie-Galante

≈ 45–50 min to Saint-Louis · seasonal

“The island of a hundred windmills”: endless sugar-cane fields, ox carts, renowned rum distilleries and some of the archipelago's finest beaches. One day is not enough… but it will make you want to return.

Petite-Terre

≈ 1 hr by boat · day trip

Two uninhabited islets protected as a nature reserve: crystal-clear lagoon, sea turtles, rays, juvenile lemon sharks, Lesser Antillean iguanas and a century-old lighthouse. Access only with approved operators, departing from the marina.

Les Saintes

seasonal service from Saint-François

The bay of Les Saintes, counted among the world's most beautiful bays, the colourful village of Terre-de-Haut, Fort Napoléon and superb diving. An unforgettable escape, reachable directly from the port in season.

Crossing times are approximate; schedules vary with the season and weather — please check with the operators before booking.

In town
Why Saint-François

The right place to unpack

Peace and quiet

A town on a human scale, far from the bustle of Pointe-à-Pitre and Le Gosier. The villa sits in a quiet residential estate: fall asleep to the tree frogs, wake up to the trade winds.

Peace of mind

Shops, pharmacy, petrol station and supermarket within 500 m, medical services in town and a host on the island: everything is simple and close by. At the villa, the pool is protected by a certified alarm.

Beauty

A lagoon in a thousand shades of blue, the cliffs of Pointe des Châteaux, islands on the horizon, sunsets over the Caribbean Sea: Saint-François has some of Guadeloupe's most beautiful scenery.

Sunshine

At the eastern tip of Grande-Terre, Saint-François is one of the sunniest and driest parts of the island, constantly cooled by the trade winds.

Location

At the crossroads of Grande-Terre: Sainte-Anne 15 minutes away, the airport 35 km away, and Basse-Terre (volcano, waterfalls, rainforest) within a day trip.

Things to do

Diving, snorkelling, kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, big-game fishing, golf, hiking, catamaran trips, scenic flights: something for the whole family.
